Writing a Personal Philosophy and Mapping Your Goals

A desire without a plan is simply a wish, but a desire with a definite plan becomes the foundation for success. Coming up with a plan can be a daunting task. It starts with coming up with a personal philosophy on life and the things we value. How can you come up with any kind of plan, if you don't have a vision of what you want to accomplish? Furthermore, how can you come up with a vision if you don't know what kind of values and fundamentals you want to represent in that vision. The following describes a plan of ACTION that will assist you in coming up with a personal plan and philosophy to help guide your life.

Open up a Word document, Excel, Power Point, or simply pull out a note pad and pen (you have to write it out, its important). Write down what you value in life (love, happiness, compassion, honesty, etc). Now take those qualities and create a vision for yourself. Mentally paint a picture in your mind of what a future that embodies your VALUES and write them out. Vividly describe the ideal, don't simply think I would like a nice house, pick an exact house you want to live in, the area, the city, down to the style of tile you want in your kitchen. Take a picture of what you want and put it on your paper, pictures serve as a powerful visual guide and are stored in your subconscious waiting for fulfillment.

Blog Writing

Now take time to write about both your VALUES and your VISION. The great thing is this is a personal document, while it should be unique, you are allowed to jot down ideas from other sources. Take your favorite quotes and insert them into this document. I personally have about three pages written on the subject of personal attitude. Some ideas about attitude I found from books I have read and others are my own. You are allowed to put anything you want in the document it is your creation.

Writing a Personal Philosophy and Mapping Your Goals

By establishing your values, you create a beginning. By creating a vision based upon those values you create your goals. The goals should stem from your vision. Here is an example (a rather materialistic one) that puts it all together. Let's say you value wealth, professional esteem, and a position of power. From there imagine yourself at a definite point in the future living (47 years old) a life that compliments these values. For example you may see yourself owning a jet for personal and business use. Your vision vividly describes a few goals. First, will need financial resources to buy the jet.

1. Goal: Have ,000,000 in the bank by age 47, by investing a certain amount monthly and earning a huge salary.

Next vision, you see yourself in charge of a large company influencing many people and leading them into success. You will need to climb your way up the corporate ladder to obtain our next goal.

2. Goal: Become CEO of XYZ company by the age 42.

These two goals should adequately satisfy our materialistic friend. However, you can see how these goals can actually create a variety of sub goals, beginning to form a strategy map. For example, achieving the ,000,000 may take investing a certain amount of money each month as well as obtaining a certain cash flow.

Achieving your goals should not be left up to change or luck, the foundation starting with forming a personal philosophy. Start today.

Troubleshooting Computer Freeze (Lockup) Problems

How familiar does the following sound? Your computer was working fine, but then suddenly started locking up (aka hanging or freezing), rebooting itself (crashing) or shutting down spontaneously? If you know only too well what I am talking about, then read on! Performing the simple steps below can fix the majority of lockup cases.

1. Check for recently installed software or hardware.

If the lockups started to happen after you installed a new peace of hardware, new software program, or new drivers, uninstall it and see if the problem goes away.

Troubleshooting Computer Freeze (Lockup) Problems

2. Run your antivirus program.

One of the first things to do in the case of sudden lockups is to run your antivirus program. Check your antivirus manufacturer's website for updates and latest virus definition files. (This is absolutely necessary, outdated antivirus is not going to be of any use!) If you don't have antivirus software installed - or if updates are unavailable - run one of the web-based antivirus scans that some major antivirus vendors like Trend Micro are offering for free. You can find a comprehensive list of available web-based scans and free antivirus programs on http://www.free-antivirus.info.

3. Run some good spyware removal tool.

If your machine is not infected with any viruses, it is still possible that it has some harmful adware or spyware is present. Download and run some good spyware removal tool such as AdAware or Microsoft AntiSpyware. Check http://www.free-antivirus.info for a list of free spyware removal applications.

4. Check for free hard drive space.

When no viruses are found, check out free hard drive space on drive C:. Make sure there is more than 20% of free space available; low disk space can lead to random lockups.

5. Check for overheating.

Overheating is another known cause of lockups. It can be caused by problems with fans inside the case, dust buildup, or other cooling problems. Make sure the power supply fan and CPU fan are running and free of dust buildup. You can check the temperatures inside the case by running Motherboard monitor
http://mbm.livewiredev.com
- make sure the temperatures are within the preset limits. Be very careful while cleaning inside the computer case (use plastic vacuum crevice tool) and NEVER OPEN THE POWER SUPPLY CASE as it contains high voltage.

6. Check the hard disk.

Check the hard disk - it is possible that its logical structure is corrupted. To check the disk for errors, right-click on the disk C: icon in "My Computer", select the "Tools" tab, check all check boxes in the "Check disk options" field, and press the "Check now" button. It should ask whether you want to schedule the check next time you restart your computer - answer "Yes" and restart your PC. The check will be performed automatically after startup; it can take a while, so be patient. The program will attempt to fix some problems automatically - however, if the hard disk is failing physically, it will need to be replaced. It is also a good idea to run Disk Defragmenter (located in Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > System Tools) to optimize data placement on the hard disk for increased performance and reliability.

7. Check the memory.

Sometimes random lockups can be attributed to the computer memory (RAM) starting to fail. You can test the memory by running Windows Memory Diagnostic that can be downloaded from http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp. If memory problems are found, try re-seating the RAM (pull it out and plug it back in). If it doesn't work, replace the defective RAM.

8. Check for other hardware problems (advanced users).

More hardware-related problems can be diagnosed by running hardware tests from the Ultimate Boot CD that can be downloaded from http://www.ultimatebootcd.com. However, you should only use it if you know what are you doing - some programs on that CD can be dangerous when used inappropriately (for example, some of them can wipe the contents of your hard disk).

9. Update Windows and drivers.

Some lockups can be caused by outdated software components - update your windows and drives by running a windows update: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com (it's good idea to run it regularly).

The above steps will help diagnose and eliminate the most common causes of lockups. Hundreds more of other possible scenarios need to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, as it all goes down to your particular computer configuration. Asking on PC
troubleshooting forums/newsgroups should help you figure out solutions to not-so-obvious lockup cases.

Tips For Using Electronic Communication in the Workplace

On the first day back at work this year an employee at one of my clients sent an email containing her new year's resolutions to her to all the email addresses in her work group - by mistake. She had meant to send the email to her friends group, but had clicked the wrong button. The email included a graphic outline of her strategy for moving up the corporate ladder which meant walking over a few important people, one of which was her immediate boss. Now understand that this email went to her entire work, supplier and customer database - including her boss and the CEO. As if that was not bad enough it also listed her romantic desires pertaining to one of her colleagues.

In today's world, with all the buzzing and beeping of new technological gadgets, communication is changing daily. Instead of sending a business letter across the ocean, you can save on postage and speed up the delivery by emailing the letter in a quick second - and it will be received by more than one recipient immediately. You can page or 'MSM' your co-worker instead of playing phone tag while trying to reach them. The workplace is often filled with the sounds of email box alerts and faxes being received and sent out and the printer is almost always hot with some department's weekly schedule. While email and other forms of electronic communication available to us in the workplace have huge benefits there is also a down side if they are not used carefully.

By using email, Facebook, MySpace, forums, USENET news groups, electronic bulletin, twitter, blogs, instant messaging, text messaging, Skype and other electronic forms of communication messages are sent far and wide very quickly. We don't always take time to read our messages after we have compiled them and are quick to hit the send button. This can get us into trouble.

Tips For Using Electronic Communication in the Workplace

There are advantages and disadvantages of email. Although the advantages outweigh the disadvantages we need to practise caution.

Here are a few guidelines for avoiding problems when using electronic communication in the workplace:

- Double check the recipients of your email before sending. Make sure that you are not sending it to the wrong people. The damage done to the above mentioned person's reputation was severe and could not be undone. In addition she had a disciplinary hearing. It may be advisable to set up an account with one of the free e-mail services and use that account for personal emails instead of your work email address.

- Be careful when clicking 'reply to all' on an email. Do you need to include all those people in the communication?

- Think twice before copying people, such as the recipient's boss, on an email where there is a dispute or disagreement. Try to resolve issues first without this aggressive approach. It will cause ill feelings. Sending an electronic message is more permanent than a verbal conversation. People calm down and feelings change with time but an email or electronic communication can stay around forever. You can't get it back once it has been sent and it can be used against you.

- Discuss sensitive issues in person. Don't put them in writing as they can be forwarded, copied and pasted and taken out of context.

- Don't send a message when you are upset or annoyed.

- Don't send anything electronically about a person, if you would not be happy with them seeing it.

- Remember to check previous communication in the message body and delete them if necessary.

- Messages placed on news groups has your name attached to it and can be searched by anyone for years to come. Many employers do internet searches to see what they can find about employees or potential employees. Before you place such information consider whether you would you want a prospective employer to see that type of information.

Free email tracing services will find the e-mail address of a person by means of a quick e-mail address search. Some sites specialize in locating email addresses by doing free email address searches such as the Hotmail email account search. This means that you can be tracked down and can end up receiving unwanted spam.

Don't be put off by the negatives of email. Email is extremely convenient. I can check my email online and can check email from any computer, anywhere in the world. There is an abundance of free e-mail providers such as AOL e-mail, Yahoo e-mail, Hotmail email addresses directory and even kids free email accounts.

Electronic communication is about working more effectively and powerfully in the workplace. It's about communicating the many messages you have to get across in the clearest way possible and as quickly as possible.

Use modern technology available to you to be resourceful in getting your message across? One particularly useful tool for effective employee communication is the intranet. The benefits of the intranet are high. The purpose of the intranet is to provide information to staff quickly and timeously. Fedex ground HR intranet and United Airlines employee intranet Skynet are examples of successful intranets.

You could post your presentation on the company intranet - that way your company saves paper and money, plus it has the advantage that employees can view the slide show whenever they please. You can create awareness on all workplace communication issues like never before.

Below are some other types of electronic communication and ways to use them.

- Use an electronic internal newsletter to drive regular communication on a monthly, fortnightly or weekly basis. Encourage two-way communication through the newsletter by using an electronic team briefing medium via Skype or video conferencing and include discussion topics requiring feedback. Feedback can be done via a questionnaire attached to a PDF.

- Use an email signature to communicate a further message such as greening the environment or to promote recycling. This message can be added below the person's name and contact details. Each message can be tailor made with a specific message that is relevant.

- Electronic teasers and flash mailers can be used instead of posters and leaflets.

- An electronic vote line can be set up on the intranet or internet.

- SMS or MMS messages can be sent to staff member's cell phones.

- Include interactive, fun electronic elements that are quick and easy to update such as electronic games.

In summary, we are living in exciting times in terms of communication as we have a variety of exciting tools at our disposal. There is no longer any excuse for submitting boring communications.

When To Take Whey Protein For The Best Results

What Are The Best Times To Take Whey Protein To Really Pack On The Muscle?

When it comes to taking whey protein, it makes sense to try and consume the whey protein supplement for the best results. If an aspiring weight trainer is just starting out and looking to supplement their diet with a protein supplement, it can be very confusing as to when to take whey protein for best the results.

Let me give you a personal example. When I first started weight training, way back in '86, my first protein supplement was Beverly International's protein powder. Of course, this protein supplement was not a whey based product but a cheap variation of soy protein mixed with milk proteins.

When To Take Whey Protein For The Best Results

I'll be the first to say that these early protein powders mixed like cement and tasted slightly better. Anyways, I had no clue when to take this protein supplement. I basically took this protein powder once every two days. This was a complete waste of money with no benefit whatsoever.

First of all, my protein intake was very inconsistent which is not conducive to building muscle at all.

Secondly, every two days was not enough to affect my protein intake at all.

How was I supposed to know when to take a protein supplement? There was absolutely no information - No forums, no blogs, no Yahoo answers, no information sites (such as building muscle101..hehe), no internet, no nothing. If you were an aspiring weight trainer back in the mid '80's, there was not a whole lot of information to be found, let alone use.

Anyways, now I know.

Whey protein is a wonderful supplement since it contains some great muscle building properties that has one important element that most other protein sources don't have.

That is it's digestibility rate. Whey protein isolate for example (the purest form of whey protein), is one of the fastest acting protein sources today.

Once ingested, whey protein isolate can be in your system shortly thereafter.

As well as being one of the fastest acting proteins, whey protein isolate is rich in Branched Chain Amino Acids (leucine, isoleucine, and valine).

These amino acids are very important since they help prevent muscle protein breakdown during exercise and appear to preserve muscle stores of glycogen. In other words, whey protein isolate contains the muscle building properties that most weight trainers are looking for. This is very important to understand.

So, let's get back to the question: when to take whey protein?

Alright, so now you know that whey protein is 1) easily and efficiently digested, and 2) high in muscle building branched chain amino acids. All we need to know now, is when to take whey protein for the best results.

I've done some research and done a lot of personal experiments to see what works best. I've come to the conclusion that there are 3 windows of opportunity to put the power of whey protein to it's best use. Here is what I think are the best times to take whey protein:

o As soon as you wake up;

o 40 minutes prior to working out;

o Immediately after working out.

Let's take a closer look at each point for the best times to take whey protein.

1) As Soon As You Wake Up

"Get Your Body Ready For Growth!"

Upon wakening, your body is pretty much in a starvation mode. Whether you realize it or not, your body is craving for nutrients and needs these nutrients in order to kick start it's internal mechanisms to start building and working. Your body is weak and wants protein. The sooner you can get some protein into your body, the better.

Personally, I've found that a whey protein isolate drink mixed with some yogurt and orange juice works best. This is one of the more important times of when to take whey protein.

Now this is very important and one that can really boost your weight training results, OVERNIGHT! Approximately 45 minutes after you've consumed your whey protein shake, you must have a full, muscle building breakfast. By doing this, you are jump starting your bodies ability to use the protein effectively and efficiently. Believe me, if you can follow this one little tip, you will soon see your results skyrocket.

2) 40 Minutes Prior To Working Out

"Supercharge Your Workouts!"

If you have some pretty intense workouts, your going to stock up on some fast acting, high quality proteins. Whey protein contains high levels of branched amino acids which help preserve muscle stores of glycogen. This is very, very important. Since glucose is the bodies number one energy source, high muscle stores of glucose ensure high, intense workouts.

I would recommend you ingest a whey protein isolate drink mixed with some carbohydrates to supercharge your workouts.

3) Immediately After Working Out

"The REAL Secret To Building Huge Muscles!

In terms of when to take whey protein, this is the most important time to take in a fast acting protein drink. If you were to only have one protein drink per day, this is the time of day to take it. I'm going to very honest here, by simply taking a protein/carb drink right after after your workouts, you will improve your results immediately.

I strongly suggest that after your workouts, you ingest a fast acting protein source such as whey protein isolate and some fast acting carbohydrates.

Why carbohydrates and protein? When carbohydrates is taken with protein, there's a blast of insulin. Insulin kicks the body's glycogen making machine into high gear. Glycogen is considered the principal storage form of glucose and is found mainly in liver and muscle. Glucose supplies the bodies active tissues with energy.

Therefore, insulin will speed up the movement of glucose and amino acids into cells which is what you definitely want and secondly, it activates a special enzyme which is essential for glycogen synthesis.

Additional research has shown that ingesting a protein/carbohydrate supplement after exercise triggers the release of growth hormone. Great news for building muscle.

If you want to build muscle, always consume a power drink that is rich in whey protein and carbohydrates after your workout and include it in your weight training diet.

Try using the following drink for your post workout meal.

½ cup low fat yogurt

1 scoop(2oz) vanilla whey protein powder- 30 grams protein

1 tbsp honey

1 ½ cup low fat or 1% milk

1 cup orange juice

5 grams creatine monohydrate

Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Includes: 590 calories, 45 grams of protein, 93 grams of carbohydrates, and 6 grams of fat.

Remember to adjust the ingredients to match that of your own nutritional needs. Now, like your breakfast, you will need to follow this up with a full muscle building meal approximately 1 hour later. I am very serious here, because if there is one element that will put you on the track to fast muscle growth, this is it. Have the above noted drink immediately after your workout, no later than 30 minutes and you MUST follow this up with a full muscle building meal 1 hour later.

There you have it. If you can manage to follow the above noted schedule, I'm 100% positive that your gains will improve almost immediately.
